We are thrilled to share the success of our students in the BPS Learner Empowerment Agency Participation (LEAP) program, a community-based, nonpaid internship initiative designed for young adults in our B.L.A.S.T program. LEAP offers valuable opportunities for our students to develop job and social skills, with internships lasting up to 4 hours a day, two days a week. As the school year wrapped up, we had the pleasure of visiting Publix Store 1358 on Garden St in Titusville, FL, where several of our LEAP students had been working under the mentorship of Andrew Clark, the store's Customer Service Manager. Thanks to Andrew's leadership, our students have not only honed their professional skills but also learned important lessons in self-advocacy. We're proud to announce that this year, 2 LEAP members were offered positions at Publix, and 2 were accepted into the Project Search Program for next year! LEAP truly empowers our students to prepare for their futures, and we couldn't be more proud of their achievements. Daniel Kilbury is the #HeartofBrevard! The Heart of Brevard is a person who puts their heart and soul into teaching, inspiring, and supporting our students in whatever role they play in BPS. What the BPS community is saying: "Mr. Kilbury is one of the most skilled, inspiring, and FUN teachers in Florida. Every student that steps foot in his classroom is not only pushed to be a better version of themselves ever day, but they are also made to feel important and are given an environment in which they can laugh and enjoy music making (at an extremely high level). Mr. Kilbury is a high support and high expectation educator. His students are consistently high achieving musicians and this transfers to their other studies and activities as well. Through music, Mr. Kilbury teaches time management, work ethic, good citizenship, collaboration, and too many more skills to name. He is an example of everything that is right with public education and why it is so important." If you know of a BPS staff member or community partner who is the “Heart of Brevard,” nominate them here: https://tinyurl.com/jx83xrdn
