Following a productive bargaining session on Friday, September 20, Brevard Public Schools (BPS) and the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) Local 1010 have reached a tentative agreement. The terms will be retroactively effective from July 1, 2024, but are contingent upon a contract vote and board ratification.
Key highlights of the agreement include:
4% wage increase for all IUPAT Local 1010 employees.
Café Assistants I, II, and III, along with Food Service Interns, will receive a 2% wage increase and a 2% bonus for those hired on or before September 1, 2024, and active as of May 1, 2025.
Bonus amounts will vary based on hours worked, with three-hour Café Assistants receiving $180 and eight-hour Food Service Interns receiving $530.
Additional changes include the modification of the Wage and Salary Schedule to align with new Fair Labor Standards Act overtime exemption thresholds. This will reduce the schedules to two categories: CORE and Professional/Technical Hourly (PTH). The removal of the Professional Technical Salary (PTS) schedule will not negatively affect job classifications moving to the PTH schedule.
The agreement also includes updates to Article 11.01, extending the evaluation period for new employees to 180 days, with the possibility of an additional 180 days if deemed necessary. This provides supervisors more time to assess new hires and ensure they meet district standards. Furthermore, Article 6.06 and Article 7.07 offer greater flexibility and opportunity for employees who transfer or are promoted within the district, supporting both retention and job performance evaluation.
This tentative agreement underscores BPS's commitment to fair compensation and employee development while ensuring the district remains compliant with evolving labor standards.
