Brevard County, Fla. - Brevard Public Schools (BPS) is pleased to announce a landmark agreement with the Brevard Federation of Teachers union, resulting in a 4% overall increase in instructional salaries. This includes a 3.5% raise for all instructional staff with an additional 0.5% allocated for pay-for-performance incentives. The agreement comes the night before teachers return to the classroom for the 2024-2025 school year.
“We are thrilled that our BPS teachers will start school with negotiations completed,” said Megan Wright, School Board Chair. “Our board has worked very hard to hear the voices of our teachers and make sure that all our staff knows how much we love being a part of the same team!”
Notably, the starting salary for new teachers will increase to $50,450.
The millage impact is another significant aspect of this agreement. For example, a highly effective 20-year teacher previously earning $60,000 will now see their salary increase to $70,269. This includes an additional $7,849 from the millage table, made only possible by the support of Brevard County voters.
"I want to thank all the negotiating teams members for their hard work and collaboration," said Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell. “Coupled with the additional funds made available by the voter approved millage this represents not only an investment in our employees, but also an investment in the future of our community."
Additional examples of salary increase include:
A Highly Effective Teacher previously earning $50,000 will now earn $52,070, including the pay-for-performance bonus.
An Effective Teacher previously earning $50,000 will now earn $51,990, including the pay-for-performance bonus.

An Effective Teacher previously earning $60,000 will now earn $62,340, including the pay-for-performance bonus.
“We’re excited to start the year with this competitive raise for our teachers that values their contributions to our A school district! BFT thanks the School Board for recognizing our employees despite funding challenges,” stated Anthony Colucci, BFT President.
The agreement also incorporates insurance plan changes including employee contribution increases of 10% for the Gold Plan participants, 5% for the Silver Plan and several plan design changes.
"We are looking forward to welcoming students to an exceptional school year with the very best staff in place,” added Megan Wright.
This agreement underscores the district's commitment to recognizing and rewarding the dedication and hard work of our educators and the support from our community. We cannot thank you everyone enough for supporting BPS and our teachers with the approval of the 2022 millage referendum.
